Finally have an iPhone for an extended time to use. Here's a few initial thoughts:
- Activation for me went smoothly. Because of the horror stories I chose to add a new phone number to my ATT account, which probably sped things along. Because I already have a history and no number needed to be ported. Can move the number later if I keep the iPhone.
- Survey of four others activating shows 1 with severe problems, 1 with minor and 2 with no problems.
- Grand Central comes in handy. It's the one number that rings all free service. Just added my new iPhone number to it so when people call the Grand Central number it rings the iPhone.
- If Apple introduced the iPhone minus the phone capability, the resulting product, the iPodBrowser, would be a runaway hit, maybe as successful as the iPhone. The browsing over WiFi and iPod capabilities are incredible. But the a lot fewer would buy the ATT activated iPhone.
- The Apple Store in UTC San Diego was mobbed yesterday. Scores of people were trying the iPhone, which was sold out at this location.
- Accessories for the iPhone at UTC were meager, mostly iShlock, especially the products from Griffin. Rubber bumpers and jackets and a few cases that just uglify the iPhone.
- The recessed earphone jack means most all earphones won't fit without an adapter, but none available at the store.
- Reports indicate 300,000 to 550,000 iPhones were sold since Friday, an amazing accomplishment. With a few percent likely to be returned, is that Apple's source for the free iPhones they're providing to their employees?
- Best case found so far looks like iCase's horizontal case seen on their Website
Good review. I'm glad to see the iPhone finally arriving - I've been writing about it since 1979... http://paullevinson.blogspot.com/2007/06/iphone-arrives.html
